Prof. Dr. Dra. Sunarti, M.Kes., lahir di Wonogiri, Jawa Tengah, pada tanggal 3 Desember 1965. Beliau lulus pendidikan SD di DKI Jakarta, SMP sampai SMA di Wonogiri, kemudian meneruskan kuliah di Fakultas Biologi, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). Gelar Master dan Dokter diperoleh dari Program Pascasarjana, Fakultas Kedokteran, Kesehatan Masyarakat dan Keperawatan (FKKMK), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).
Sejak tahun 1993, beliau menjadi salah satu dosen di Departemen Biokimia, FKKMK, UGM. Selama mengabdi di UGM, beliau pernah menjadi ketua Departemen Biokimia, FKKMK UGM tahun 2010 hingga 2014 dan 2016-2020, Ketua Minat Biokimia, Program Pascasarjana (S2), Program Studi Magister Ilmu Biomedis (MIB), FKKMK UGM tahun 2014 hingga 2015, dan 2022-sekarang, dan Tim Ahli Pusat Studi Pangan dan Gizi (PSPG) UGM tahun 2008 – 2016. Ketua Komisi III senat FKKMK tahun 2021-sekarang. Ketua Perhimpunan Biokimia dan Biologi Molekuler Indonesia (PBBMI) cabang Yogyakarta tahun 2019-sekarang dan anggota Perhimpunan Ahli Teknologi Pangan Indonesia (PATPI). Beliau mendapat penghargaan dari FKKMK UGM terkait Publikasi di Jurnal Internasional pada tahun 2014 dan 2015, serta penghargaan sebagai Dosen Berprestasi II tahun 2018.
